146.655 - FM

..

Since 1995, SMARC has operated an open 2-Meter FM repeater, W4OLB 146.655 (-) 100 Hz from Alcoa's main water tank facility on Reservoir Hill. This hilltop site is in unincorporated Blount County having a Maryville postal address, but is owned by the City of Alcoa.

The 100' Rohn SSV tower previously served Alcoa police and fire repeaters until their migration to a statewide trunking system in 2012.

SMARC has enjoyed an excellent relationship with the City of Alcoa for 30+ years and they've been very supportive of our operations. Use of the site and electricity are provided to the club rent-free and we show our appreciation by maintaining the city's radio equipment building at the base of the tower.

The club's RF equipment and antennas have been updated three times over the years, most recently in 2024.

For best results, program a 100 Hz transmit tone, and NO receive tone when using this repeater.

444.075 - FM/DMR

In 2018, an open UHF mixed-mode FM/DMR repeater owned and operated by Bob Wilson, KK4XA, was co-located with the club's 2-meter machine on Reservoir Hill.

Bob's repeater is connected to the internet and therefore provides VOIP linking to other DMR repeaters and hotspots throughout the US and many foreign countries via the Brandmeister DMR system, thus allowing interesting conversations with amateurs of other cultures.

This repeater operates on 444.075 MHz (+ offset), PL tone = 71.9 Hz (both encode and decode) for UHF FM mode and utilizes Color Code 1, Time Slot 1, for DMR access to the Brandmeister network.

Maryville TG 314742 is linked to the SMARC 146.655 club repeater (in DMR mode only). This is a useful tool for any licensed HAM, with a DMR radio, to monitor SMARC activities, check into any of the SMARC nets from anywhere, or just make a contact with anyone within the footprint of the 146.655 SMARC VHF repeater via the internet when travelling away from home.

For more information on the KK4XA repeater, please contact Bob Wilson, KK4XA. kk4xa@arrl.net

JOHN SEVIER WATER TOWER SITE

..

443.075 - FM/FUSION

..

Since 2021, SMARC has operated an open UHF repeater from the City of Maryville's John Sevier Water Tower. Use of this site and electricity are generously provided to SMARC rent-free by the City of Maryville. The ground elevation here is about 60' lower than Reservoir Hill, but the site is well situated in proximity to many club member's homes and offers good RF coverage for handheld transceivers inside buildings.

The UHF FM mode W4OLB 443.075 (+5 MHz offset) repeater has a 100.0 transmit tone and a 100.0 receive tone.

This repeater also supports Fusion Digital mode for operators equipped with Yaesu System Fusion digital transceivers. Internet connectivity is provided over the air by an off-site node at the home of club member K4EDD.

This repeater is linked in FM mode to the SMARC VHF FM repeater during nets and may also be linked or unlinked manually at other times.

Please note: if you hear traffic in DN mode, you don't have to do anything except press the PTT button to join in the QSO with whoever is on the repeater. And please be aware that when the repeater is connected to WiresX, that you will hear QSO's from folks out of state, or around the world, and also be aware that they hear you as well.
